Collaborative Effort Boosts Youth Agripreneurship as UMU concludes TAGDev TOT at Mariaflo, Masaka City
Uganda Martyrs University, under the TAGDev 2.0 initiative with support from RUFORUM, has been hosting a three-day residential Training of Trainers (ToT) aimed at strengthening participants’ capacity in designing entrepreneurship and agribusiness education curricular for university staff, agricultural extention workers and out of school youths.
Organized as part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week #GEW activities, the training, which concluded on Tuesday 18th November 2025 focused on equipping trainers with the skills needed to not only design but also to deliver practical, youth-centered curricula and Entrepreneurship training that respond to the realities faced by young women and men in agricultural value chains. This forms part of the University’s broader commitment to supporting youth employability and promoting self-driven job creation within the agriculture sector.
Held from 16th to 18th November 2025 at Mariaflo in Masaka City, the ToT has been facilitated by StartHub Africa, a partner known for its leadership in entrepreneurship training and innovation-driven learning. Over the course of the programme, participants have engaged in intensive sessions that blend theory and hands-on practice. These have included interactive modules on opportunity identification, curriculum development, agribusiness modeling, and facilitation techniques that enable trainers to transform classroom concepts into actionable skills for youth.
This physical training brought together a diverse group of participants, including UMU staff, farmers, and youth representatives from TVET institutions. This mix has created a rich learning environment where academic insights, field experience, and vocational perspectives intersect. Through group discussions, peer learning, and collaborative exercises, the participants have shared challenges and practical solutions, building a strong network of educators committed to uplifting young people through agriculture. The diversity of the cohort has also enabled a deeper understanding of the needs of out-of-school youth and the gaps that must be addressed to effectively support them.
As the ToT concludes, Uganda Martyrs University continues to reaffirm its role in championing agricultural transformation and youth empowerment in Uganda. By building a pool of skilled trainers equipped with modern, relevant, and community-driven approaches, the University together with RUFORUM and StartHub Africa is contributing to a sustainable ecosystem where young people can access dignified work, create employment, and drive innovation within agricultural value chains. This training marks another step in strengthening capacity at the grassroots and ensuring that young women and men remain at the center of the country’s agricultural development agenda.
