Shaping the Future of PR: PRAU Uganda Awards Best Graduate Student In Public Relations Studies at UMU
UMU students were treated to an insightful and engaging session with the Public Relations Association of Uganda (@PRAU_Uganda), delving into the power of storytelling, reputation management, and the critical role of ethical communication in today’s fast-evolving PR landscape. The event, rich with knowledge and inspiration, provided students with valuable tools and insights that will shape their careers in media and communication.
PRAU vice-president, Paul Mwirigi Muriungi, said their association strives to promote PR excellence, which is why they recognize and support the best PR students from different universities. “For the last eight years, we have been visiting universities while training and awarding students. We also run a mentorship programme,” he said.
A standout moment of the event was the Best PR Student 2024 award, where Bridget Kenyangye was recognized for her outstanding academic performance in the field of public relations. The top PR student from each university receives a trophy, certificate and between sh200,000 and sh300,000.
The award served as an inspiration to all attendees, highlighting the importance of dedication, innovation, and a commitment to excellence. This recognition not only honored the individual student’s hard work but also motivated others to pursue their goals with the same level of passion and dedication.
The day’s festivities didn’t stop there. The event also served as the official platform for the @IMChallengeug Awards, which celebrated exceptional talent in the media and communication industries. The awards recognized individuals and organizations that have made a significant impact through innovative storytelling, creative content, and effective communication strategies. It was an inspiring moment for students, showcasing the heights they could reach in their future careers if they apply the skills and knowledge they are learning today.
Sister Dennis Samanya, the UMU Dean Associate, said the awards motivate the students to work hard and open them up to opportunities to gain more skills and put the theories learnt into practice through internships and mentorships.
Rev. Fr Dr Christopher Mukidi, the UMU Deputy Vice-Chancellor, said they emphasize ethics and integrity because it is the one way the country can have employees who can resist vices like corruption, especially in public offices. At the same engagement on Friday, the UMU students who excelled in the 2024 Inter University Media Challenge competitions were awarded, including the best live radio repo and best community and TV reporting.
