UMU Welcomes RUFORUM–TAGDev 2.0 Scholarship Students

Sep 18, 2025

Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) today officially welcomed a new cohort of students under the Transforming African Agricultural Universities to Meaningfully Contribute to Africa’s Growth and Development (TAGDev) Project, a flagship initiative implemented in partnership with the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM). During the initiation ceremony held at the UMU main campus, the TAGDev beneficiaries were not only warmly introduced to the university community but also equipped with essential tools to support their academic journey. Each student received a laptop alongside other scholarly materials, symbolizing UMU’s and RUFORUM’s commitment to providing an enabling environment for transformative learning and innovation.

The TAGDev initiative, anchored in RUFORUM’s mission to strengthen higher education in Africa, is designed to produce graduates who can drive agricultural transformation, entrepreneurship, and community development. By investing in students’ holistic growth—through mentorship, innovation support, and academic empowerment—TAGDev continues to bridge the gap between higher education and the real needs of African societies.

The new cohort joins a vibrant network of TAGDev alumni already making meaningful contributions in Uganda and across Africa. With the resources and opportunities provided, the students at UMU are poised to become change agents who will shape solutions to pressing challenges in agriculture, food security, and rural livelihoods.

Uganda Martyrs University remains grateful to RUFORUM and its partners for their continued collaboration and support, and looks forward to seeing the transformative impact that these young scholars will bring to their communities and the continent at large.
